To support our advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data science at The University of Southern Denmark, the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute invites candidates to apply for an Associate Professor position to help us bring AI and machine learning into more diverse specialities with a focus on data driven solutions within medical applications and renewable energy. The starting date is October 1st 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Research and organizational environment
At the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), the candidate will join the research group of Applied AI & Data Science (AID) at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Institute. In collaboration with several University Hospitals and industrial partners across Denmark and Europe, these research environments provide the foundation for accelerating AI in the energy and health care sector as well as representing expertise in artificial intelligence, statistical machine learning, and data science by developing methods for data-driven solutions spanning across diverse specialities.
The successful candidate will be also affiliated with the Centre for Clinical Artificial Intelligence (CAI-X), a research and innovation unit established in 2020 as a collaboration between SDU and Odense University Hospital (OUH). The mission of CAI-X is to improve quality in healthcare through intelligent use of data and technology, and to ensure implementation of artificial intelligence solutions to benefit both patients and clinical staff. The centre has established a framework that supports efficient and fruitful cooperation between clinical staff, researchers, engineers, and businesses – both nationally and internationally.
Qualifications
We would like to appoint a talented and committed colleague, holding a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related areas, who will contribute actively to the research environment in our group. We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in machine learning and in general data science with interests and background in at least one of the two broad research directions (healthcare/renewable energy). To participate in our healthcare related research, we seek a strong background and interest in the analysis of heterogeneous unstructured patient data, including biological signals, as well as images. We invite motivated candidates with a background in any one of these research directions to apply, while a background in both directions would be preferred. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to the development of a strong AI research environment at SDU. We believe in fostering a stimulating and inspiring environment, so the successful candidate will have the possibility of collaborating with researchers working with bio robotics and soft robotics, drones and autonomous systems, among others.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic research team and will be introduced to and included in teaching activities, research projects, fundraising activities, and collaborations to explore the synergy between clinical and technical researchers, healthcare professionals and industrial partners.
