The Brewer group, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Southern Denmark hereby announces an open PhD position for an outstanding candidate with a keen interest in the development and application of data analysis tools for state-of-the-art spatial transcriptomics, including tools for image analysis, MERFISH decoding, data visualization, and bioinformatics analysis. The research focus for this position is to integrate these techniques with conventional transcriptomics, to characterize cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions in healthy and diseased human tissues focusing on adipose tissues, skin biopsies, and liver biopsies.
The project will be carried out at the Danish Molecular Biomedical Imaging Center (DaMBIC) in close collaboration with the Mandrup group in the interdisciplinary research Center of Excellence for Functional Genomics and Tissue Plasticity (ATLAS).
We are looking for applicants who have:
• A strong background in Molecular Biology, Biomedicine, or Computational Systems Biology
• Experience with single molecule localization microscopy (STORM)
• Experience with image analysis, bioinformatics, programming languages such as Python and R.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills and an interest in working in an interdisciplinary environment.
The position is available from 1 September 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.
